An Expla- The editorial in last
nation. week’s "Collegian” to-
ward the recent Ath-
letic Association proceedings re
garding the Basketball Amendments
was based on insufficient advertis-
ing of the same.
In justification of the officers of
the Association, this matter was
properly announced and thoroughly
discussed at a Mass Meeting before
the Easter vacation. Here it was
the sentiment of those present that
Basketball become a Minor Sport.
It therefore seemed only neces-
sary to act upon this question
officially to make it constitutional
and this was done Wednesday
morning, May 1. This explains the
lack of previous notice in regards to
this matter.
The object of our editorial was
not to criticise regular proceedings
of the Athletic Association. The
idea was not that the basketball
question had not been settled ac
cording to the Constitution, being,
as it was, unanimously decided by
nine hundred students. Our point
was simply to suggest in the future,
taking the proceedings in question
as an example, that when important
matters arise, even though they be
discussed previous to the voting on
of the same and practically decided,
that a few days notice would give
time for every man in College to
decide and make it a point to be at
that particular meeting even though
he could not attend all mass meet-
Penn State A better example of
Spirit. true Penn State spirit
than that which pre
vailed at last Saturday’s game,
when Notre Dame defeated us,
could not have existed anywhere.
The cheering was never as good at
past baseball games —probably due
to the fact that the cheer leader had
assistance,
Throughout the whole game, the
courtesy of the stands was plainly
evident. Good baseball, whether
exhibited by Notre Dame or Penn
State was applauded with like vig
or, and costly errors were regarded
as unavoidable. Even after the
visitors had shattered almost all of
our hopes for victory, our Alma
Mater was sung with as much spirit
as if we were winning instead of be
ing defeated. Such College spirit
of team and student body was
shown there as would befit any col
lege, and as any college would be
proud to have —it was true Penn
State spirit, and we can feel proud
of ourselves.
At all times, we are glad
Notices to publish in the columns
or in the calendar of the
“Collegian" information concerning
important meetings or special events
of the future. However, for our
security, we kindly ask that all
advance notices' of any kind be
signed by proper authorities.
