At a meeting of the Board of Trustees held .Januaiy 23, 1912, the following was oidered spiead upon the minutes and a copy sent to the Collegian: - The lb evidence thet rules the universe and the destinies of man called from the activities of this life Gabriel Hiestcr, of Harrisburg, on Fiiday, Januaiy 19, 1912. Mr.lTiester was boin Apr.2S,lSso, attheHiester homestead "Esther ton” along the Susquehanna, which was his life-long residence. His parents were Augustus Otto and Catherine Cox Hiestei, and his grandfather was Gabriel Hiester, a Revolutionary war officer. Reared on the farm, he secured his eaily education at the Plairisburg Acad emy, graduating fiom that institu tion in 1866. Tne same year he enter ed The Pennsylvania State College and graduated with the class of 1868. He married, October 4, 1871, Annie E. Maurer, of Hairis burg, and they had one son, A. Otto, now living at Buffalo, N. Y„ and two daughters, Nancy, married to Francis Bird Dutton, living at Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and Sarah, living at home. Mr. Hiester ranked as a leader in scientific agriculture and horticul ture, serving many years as Presi dent of the State Horticultural Society, which office he held at the time of his death. Pie was rec ognized as the foremost fruitgrower of the State, having been awarded medals at the Pan-Ameiican Ex position at Buffalo, the World’s Fair at Chicago and the Paris Ex position. Pie was a Trustee of The Penn sylvania State College from 1879 to his death and seived most efficient ly and acceptably on many of the committees. Always thoioughly in earnest, absolutely dependable, and a staunch friend of the Institution, the absence of his genial presence and loyal support will be keenly felt and deeply regretted by his colleagues and all who knew him. Cloud, managing edi tor ot the Signal Engineer, Chicago, will come to State College Wednes day, Feburary 21st to deliver a lecture on signalling, and the signal engineer for students in the school of engineering. Mr. Cloud, who is a well known signal expert, has piepared this illustrated lecture especially for the students.
