NEW YORK ANNUAL DINNER. Sixty-six Old State Men Present. r College Affairs Discussed The Annual Dinner of The Penn sylvania State Association of New York was held at Murray’s on Sat urday evening, Jan- 27, 1912, with a total attendance of sixty-six. After the dinner, informal ad dresses were made by the guests of honor: Dr. E. E. Sparks, president of'.the college; Mr. E. W. Bush, president of the general alumni as sociation; Mr. R. H. Smith, secre tary of the general association and graduate manager of the athletic teqms; and Mr. A. C. Reed, trus tee of the college and a leading spirit in the Pittsburg association. Dr. Sparks brought foith the greetings of the Boston association from their meeting of the previous evening and congratulated the New York association on the large and enthusiastic body of old State men gathered for the occasion. He out lined the recent developments at the college, prophesied that the enroll ment would pass the two-thousand mark this year, called attention to the crowded conditicns brought about by these large yearly acces sions to the student body, and spoke most encouragingly of the in creased interest in the college on the part of the people of the state, the Legislature and the Governor. Mr. Bush mentioned briefly var ious activities of the alumni asso ciation and asked the hearty co operation of those present. Mr. Smith emphasized especially the Alumni Quarterly, the employ ment ■ buieau and -the associate grade of membership for men who have left college before gr-.duation. Speaking as Graduate Manager, he went into the present status of each branch of sport, tue schedules for next season, the recently discussed one-year eligibility rule and ex pressed the belief that eventually a comprehensive one would be put into force. Mr. Reed v.as called upon to tell “how they do it in Pittsburgh," which he did in his characteristic, happy manner. He proposed a Philadelphia-Pittsburgh-Ncw York reunion next fall on the evening be fore the State-Penn game and the suggestion was very favorably re ceived by all present. Trustee J. G. White and Presi dent A. S. McAllister urged the im portance of the Twenty-Dollar Fund established several years ago to provide an annual income from which the New York associa tion might assist the college in vari ous ways as needs arose. During the coming year an effort will be made to collect all outstanding sub scriptions and to secure additional ones. Secretary H. A. Hey spoke of the benefit the college derives from the annual interscholastic track meet held on Beaver Field, for which the New York association has each year furnished medals fcr all point winners, and it was voted to provide the medals for the 1912 meet. After a number of members had expressed themselves in favor of more frequent meetings, it was voted to hold a meeting on the last Saturday of each month from October to May inclusive. After adjournment many lingered to talk over college affairs and to extend best wishes to Dr. Sparks for a pleasant vacation and a safe return. The action of the Trustees of the college in recognizing the valuable seivices of the President by granting him a leave of absence was most heartily approved by everyone.
