John Haddow 'l3 was elected
captain:of our five last week and
his study, hardworking play gives
us conedence that he will make a
fine 'leader and that even this
year' i)rilliant record may be eclips
ed. The ability to do the latter
will rest not only upon the unusual
ly strong nucleus of players left for
the 1911-'l2 five but also upon the
will of the students and alumni to
conthiiie basketball as ' a major
sport. The sentiment among the
undergraduate body was emphatical
ly "For Basketball" this past wintet
and the likelihood of a change in
opinion is small, for there is seem
irgly no - Way to satisfactorily re
place the varsity floor game in an
isolated college like Penn State
where there must .be some exciting
winter entertainment.
She Class Banquets.
At a meeting of the Sophomore
banquet committee on Monday
evening, arrangements were com
pleted for the 1913 banquet, which
will be held this year at the Logan
house in Altoona. The selection of
the'place for the banquet this year
was made atter a discussion in which
Williamsport, State College, and
Altoona were warmly ' supported,
but the superior transportation facil
ities and accomodations of th,
mountain city made it the final
selection. Detailed announcement
of the arrangements will be made in
due time. .
Nothing definite could be learned
concerning the arrangements , foi the
Senior 'b mquet. The Juniois and
Freshmen do not intend to have a
banquet this year. The Juniors,
are under heavy expenses on ac
count of the La Vie and other class
dues, and on account of this as well
as the fact that Junior banquets
are seldom a'sitCcess, it was dicided
not to have a banquet. On account
of a ruling of the faculty the Fresh
men are unable to take their annual
excursion to Williamsport.
