A New Opening for College Men.
The Pennsylyania Railroad recent
ly established an apprentice system
of training men for signal engineers,
which promises to offer . elegant
openings for college men. The de
mand for greater safety and facility
in operation has resulted in an ex
traordinary growth in the number
of block signal installations, and
consequently in a greater demand
for experienced and capable men in
that line.
To train engineers, capable of di
recting and planning signal installa
tions, the company has appointed
six apprentices, three of whom are
graduates of Penn State: J. G. J.
Stoll, ’OB, G. H. Wion 'UB, and C.
S. Snavely ’OB. These apprentices
will each serve a three years’
course; the first, on the mechanical
end with the repair and construction
gangs; the second, in the office of
the supervisor of signals; and the
third on outside work on electric
and electro-pneumatic appliances.
The next place open to these men
is the position of assistant signal in
spector in the signal engineer’s of
fice. After attaining this they will
be in line for appointment as assist
ant supervisor of signals, inspector,
assistant signal engineer, and signal
engineer.

lege for a few days last week. He
is connected with the electrical de
parrment of the American Smelting
and Refining company at Helena
Montana.
G. E Ogilvie 'lO, president of the
Y. M. C. A., attended the Presi
dents’ conference of the Pennsyl
vania Christian Associations at
Franklin and Marshall last week.
