New Stores Opened.
A marked improvement in the
stores of State College was made
last week, when L. D. Fye moved
into his new building, and Sheasly
and Gentzel opened a department
store in the building formerly oc
cupied by Sheasly and Rearick's
furniture store. Rearick and Heb
erling opened a new furniture store
in Knisely's skating rink on Beaver
avenue. All of the stores have en•
larged their stock and are prepared
to give excellent service to their
patrons.
Schenectady Alumni Banquet to be
Held Soon.
The
_regular meeting and banquet
of the Schenectady Branch of the
Alumni Association of The Penn
sylvania State College will be held
at Thalman's, 238 State Street,
Schenectady, N. Y., on Saturday
evening, February 20th, 1909, be
ginning at 8:00 o'clock.
All alumni, students and friends
of the college are urged to attend,

Sixteen applicants took the ex
amination last week for clerk-carriers
for the local post office. The re
sults are not yet known.
E. G. Lyon ex- 'l2, has enlisted
in the army and is now at Fort Slo
cum, N. Y., with the coast artillery.
He is the most perfectly developed
man who has passed through the
Williamsport recruiting office.
The City of Chicago will celebrate
the Centennary of Lincoln's birth
day by a public meeting at the
Auditorium on February 12. Presi
dent Sparks of The Pennsylvania
State College and President Wilson
of Princeton University will be the
speakers.
