He wants the students themselves to take the initiative in regulating college customs which work toward the detriment of our college. He spoke enthusiastically of our athletics. He ended with a plea that all difficulties be brought to the mass meetings and discussed by both sides and settled by com promise. Prof. Gilmore to Leave. Prof. John W. Gilmore of the School of Agriculture has been ap pointed President of the College of Hawaii. This institution was or ganized by act of legislature in 1907, and receives a federal grant of :c30,- 000 from the United States govern ment. The Hawaiian legislature has also appropriated $25,000 addition 1 for the maintenance of the College. The new field of useful ness into which Prof. Gilmore is go ing is very great and the salary which goes with it makes the change very profitable from a financial standpoint. The question chosen for the de bate with Swarthmore in the first of the intercollegiate debates for next year is as follows : "'Resolved, that all corporations engaged in interstate commerce shall be required to take out a federal charter on such terms as Congress may by law prescribe, conceded that such legis lation would be constitutional." State hi' s the choice of sides and must notify Swarthmore as to this choice within two weeks, Next Year's Debate. The debating club is very opti mistic in regard to next year's work. President Sparks has signified his desire to see the work progress, and his name has been presented for membership. With the hearty co operation of the English depart ment and of President Sparks, the outlook for the future is hopeful. Association Items. The Subject for the 6:15 meeting on Sunday evening is "Christian Theory and Practice." All those interested in the work of the Association are invited to meet in the Main building at 1:30 p. m. next Sunday. The party will walk to some suitable place in the fields near the College and hold an open air discussion concerning the woik of the Association for the next college year. If the weather is un suitable, this conference will ,be postponed until the following Sun day afternoon.
