THE STATE COLLEGIAN
pitched wonderfully good ball and
held the red and white team in
check, even toward the latter part of
the game, when the damp, chilly
wind had made his arm stiff and
sore. But all our men are to be
congratulated—everyone—for each
one played the game of his life and
upheld Old State's colors in a way
that makes his Alma Mater proud
to number him among its students.
When the news of the victory
reached State a large bonfire was
built on the campus near the
armory. It was an 'event that the
students could well afford to cele
brate, as few colleges can duplicate
the record of winning three straight
games from the athletic teams at
Ithaca. Cornell's team never played

CAPS
The Syracuse and Rochester Games.
Leaving here on Saturday, April
25, for the northern trip, our base
ball team on the following Monday
and Tuesciay met and won from two
teams that it had never before en
countered on the diamond. These
GOWNS
were the Syracuse University nine,
which was defeated 4 to 3, and the
University of Rochester team, which
went down to defeat, 7to 3, at the
hands of Captain Cree and his vic
torious team.
"Bob" Vorhis was in the box at
Syracuse and allowed but six hits.
He was opposed by Mack. who not
only pitched an excellent game but
did most of the damage against us
by making two two-base hits and a
single. The ninth inning of this con
test was an exciting period for State.
The New York team secured one
run and had two men on bases with
one out and one needed to tie the
score. It was growing dark and the
ball was difficult to see in the large
concrete stadium, but Larry Vorhis
cleaner, better baseball than it did
against State last Wednesday and
when the final encouraging "Cor
nell I yell" had echoed across Percy
field and the home team had lost a
well played game, the Ithacans
acknowledged, one and all, that the
Pennsylvanians well deserved the
victory they had valiantly won
