Indiana Normal vs. Scrubs Captain Ryan's scrub team treated the undergraduate body to some fast baseball, when it met the In diana Normal nine last Monday on Beaver field. Only after eleven in nings of the hardest kind of a tussle, and numerous plays that drew loud applause from the spectators, could the visitors carry away a victory with them. The main features of the game were the splendid pitching of Skemp, who struck out twelve men, and the phenomenal fielding of Butz at second. This was the Scrubs' opening game and if their hitting can be improved, they should win most of their coming games with Lock Haven, Williamsport and Juniata college. The following men played for the reserves: Glenn, ss; Ryan, 3; Leidich, m; Thomas, c; Watson, r; Butz, 2; Fox, 1; Mosser, 1; Foster, 1; and Skemp, p. the score Indiana Normal Reserves Nittany Lions Defeat Scrubs. Mr. Mills is sent here through the courtesy of the United States Forest Service, who during the past year has sent him through nearly every srate in the union where he has given his unusual lectures on the forests of this country and their wild life. Mr. Mills shows wonderful views of our western forests in their sum mer beauty; in their winter mantle of snow; and in the agony of the great forest fires. The following editorial from the Denver Republi can of January 31st 1900, expresses well Mr. Mills' place as a lecturer. "The third speaker of the evening was one who has lived amid the forests of the mountains as few men have; loved and communed with them in their deepest solitude as only a poet or a Thoreau could do. Without rhetoric or bombastic or atory, Enos A. Mills can tell the story of the forest life in a language so simple and pce:ic as to charm any listener and inspire a deeper sense of what the forest is and to enhance the happiness of man." 0110000 0 0 0 1- 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0-2 THE STATE COLLEGIAN An Interesting Free Lecture.
