    That day the Williamsport Tri-State
team was played and with Mi inpei
on the rubber State lost out to the
league champions, 4 to 2. The
white and blue aggregation made
eight hits as compared to their op
ponents' seven, and with the best of
support, Mitinger should have won
his game, as his pitching was ex
cellent.
The first of the two games with
the University of Virginia was not
played, since our team missed con
nections at Washington. The
Southerners were surprised at the
strength of Penn State, when the
visiting nine won the second of the
scheduled games by the score of. 9
to 5. "Bob" Vorhis twirled good
ball, especially toward the end of
the game after State had overcome
the Virginians' big lead of four runs.
With Lynch in the box, Mercers
burg was easily defeated 8 to 1 in
seven innings, and our team then left
to finish up the trip at Carlisle with
the Indians and Dickinson. Against
the Redmen Mitinger was always
master of the situation, striking out
eleven and allowing but three hits,
and State was returned a winner by
the score of 4to 0. Coulson
starred in this game by getting four
hits, three of them counting for two
bases each. Coulson, Cree and
Haverstick are now leading the team
in batting, and the race is a close
one. The trip was concluded on
Thursday the twenty second, when
Dickinson was defeated 16 to 8 in
thirteen innings. Our team neither
fielded nor batted with its accus
tomed strength and Kelly's single in
the ninth inning, with Coulson on
third, really saved the game, since
our opponents were one run ahead
at the time. In the thirteenth in
ning "Paddy" Lynch started the
merry-go-round with a pretty single
and before Langstaff, the opposing
twirler, could check the batting rally
State had scored eight runs and
Lynch had made his second hit of
the inning.
THE STATE COLLEGIAN
After the successful Easter trip,
Susquehanna University was de
feated last Saturday on Beaver Field
by the score of 2to U. Tne visitors
played surprisingly good baseball
and but for-the magnificent pitching
of Skemp, might have won out.
Skemp allowed but two hits and
scored one of State's runs nimself.
After the game the team left
hurriedly for Williamsport and the
rorthern trip ,on which games with
Syracuse, Rochester, and Cornell
universities were scheduled.
