KAVANAUGH, Manager THE STATE COLLEGIAN The baseball squad under the di rection of Coach "Lefty" Mcllveen and Captain "Burdie" Cree put in its second indoor practice last Satur day afternoon. It will be only a matter of a few weeks until the work can be pushed forward rapidly by daily practice, and the prospects for a successful season are very promising just now. The squad presents a very good appearance from the fact that most of the old men are in uniform and the new men are showing up well. Two infield vacancies caused by the absence of ex-Capt. "Joe" Mason and Crutchley will present the hardest propositions, as both of these men were stars. But with the material on hand at least good sub stitutes will be in place for the' first R I I game. The pitching staff will be com posed of men picked from "Bob" Vorhis, Mitinger, McCleary, Lynch, Bray, Skemp, and Leidich. "Larry" Vorhis and Pearl Thomas will be behind the bat, while Hirsh man, one of the veterans, and Bubb, who played with Mercersbu- g last year, are working for first. No better man can be had than "Bur due" at short and just who will fill the other sacks is yet to be deter mined. Haverstick, who has been out of college a year is doing good work at third. Workman of Har risburg High is showing up well and will undoubtedly be seriously con sidered before any final decisions are made. Ferguson, and Mason, brother of "Joe," who has had ex perience with Allegheny High, are both in the fight foi the infield jobs. Coulson will be the main worker out of the diamond and his two running mates will be either alternate pitch ers or men whom it will be advisable to pike there for other reasons. Taken as a whole, the material from which the team will be selected is certainly as good as any that has Baseball Practice. turned out in many years to fight for the White and Blue. COLLEGE NOTES. F.
