    Among the Clubs.
During the Christmas holidays
just passed, a large number of. duos
held banquets; smokers, receptions,
and other social events, in the effort
to have together the present stu
dents, the alumni, and prospective
students. That these affairs have
far-reaching 'effects, has been evi
dent in former years.
On the evening of December 21,
the York county club held its re
ception in the parlors of the Colonial.
hotel, in York. Dr. Welsh was
present and gave a very interesting
talk. Among the guests were men -
bers of both houses or the Legisla
ture, and men prominent in educa
tional affairs of York county.
the Harrisburg Club held its
banquet and smoker in the Engineers
club in that city. Besides the large
attendance of. the members of the
club s there were also present a num
ber j'et alumni and friends. The
coming intercollegiate meet at Island
Parkrwas made the subject of an
enthatiastic speech by Mr. B. W.
Demising of the class of 1890

president, and secretary and treas
urer„. respectively of the Alumni As
sociation..
The Reading Club held its smoker
at Barbey's Cafe on the night of
Deceinber 27. Among those
present were Senator E. M. Herbst,
Representative D. H. G. Kuser and
Dr: W. K. Shearer, 'OO, who made
short - speeches. On the same even
ing were held the receptions of the
Lancaster county . club and the.
Cheite'r county club at each of

;The Wilkes-Barre club had an in
formal reception on the night of
January 2. About fifty were
present. On the same night the
Johnstown club' held their reception
