    An Intercollegiate Track Meet.
Representatives of nine rennsyl
vania colleges met at Harrisburg
last Friday and formed a permanent
organization which will hereafter an
nually • conduct an intercollegiate
track and field meet. These institu
tions are Lafayette, Swarthmore, Le
high, W.& J., Muhlenberg. Bucknell,
Temple, Carlisle, Dickinson, and
State. We were represented by
J. M. Harding.
After a careful discussion of the
situation, a constit ition was adopted
and officers chosen. The pres
idency of the league was tendered to
Lafayette, the vice-presidency to
State, while the secretary and treas
urer will be from Dickinson. Year
ly dues are to be paid to defray ex
penses of the secretary and a novel
method of sharing the cost of the
meet was agreed upon. The ex
penses of ten men for each team
entered will be pooled and divided
equally between the contesting col
leges. Any extra men will be pro
vided for by the institution entering
them. During the convention $2OO
was subscribed by the Yale ana
Princeton alumni clubs of Harris
burg toward the expenses of the or.:
ganization.
The city of Harrisburg, through
its Mayor and secretary of the Board
of - Trade, offered to bear the ex
penses of the first meet, to provide
medals and prizes,and to furnish en
tertainment for the teams. This of
fer was accepted and the meet will
be held on the large Island Track on
May 30. The meet will be free to
the public.
It is expected that this inter
collegiate contest will greatly stimu
late interest in track and field sports
and should lead to closer athletic
