The Chemistry Annex Our readers will recall the fact that $70,000 was appropriated by the recent Legislature for the erec tion of a portion of a bu,lding for the Department of Chemistry but that the Governor's veto axe cut off $50,000 of this sum, leaving only $20,000 with which to effect the needed relief. After a careful study of the situation, the Executive Corn mittee concluded that ir would be necessary to use this $20,000 for a temporary instead of a permane t building, as in the case of the Eng - neering Annex and the Mining Build ings. Mr. J. Herbert Hall, of Hunting don, the architect, has completed the plans and work will be started at once. The structure will be directly back of tie present building and wi'l extend across the west end of Beaver field. It will be twu stories in height, 100 feet wide, and 135 feet in length. The upper floor will con tain a large lecture room capable of seating more than 500 students, The remaining space in the building will be devoted to class rooms and a laboratory for quaitative work which will accommodate 250 stu dents. All necessary equipment is being ordered and it is hoped to have the new structure ready for Use at the beginning of the second semester.
