    "Draft," J. S. Miller; Engineering
in the Southwest, Prof. Paul; The
Honor System, W. Eckels; The 'OB
Bunch, M. B. Gerhard; Pointers,
Prof. Reber.
Prof. Paul's talk was especially
interesting. He advise] mechanical
engineers to stay in the east, but
stated that the west offered great
opportunities to elect icals and es
pecially to civils, because of the
field which is being opened by irri
gation.
The Three Commodities.
The truths contained in the follow-,
ing sentences, written by a success
ful New York business man, are so
vital that they are worthy of careful
reading and thought.
"In studying the life of man we
discover a threefold division in his
development, the physical or the
body, the intellectual or the brain,
and moral or character, that ever
have been, are, and ever will be on
the market of the world.
"The physical or brawny man
without character is low and drugs
the market. The intellectual or
brainy man without character is
diminished in value and unprofitable
in the end. The moral or "char
acter." man without either brawn or
orain is stamped a saint, and heaven
is his home, —he has no place a.:.ong
the sons of men. But the physical
or brawny man with character is
rated high and is in great demand.
The intellectual or brainy man with
character is higher still, as the d?.-
mand is greater. The moral or
"character" man with both brawn
and brain is the masterpiece of
heaveu,.the beauty of the world, the
paragon of animals, and the noblest
work of God!"
