EDITORIAL.
Today and tomorrow on Beaver
Field our team will engage in what
will probable prove to be the hardest
fought games played thus far this
season. Villanova has practically
the same team that she has had dur-
ing the past three years, the major
ity of her players being Seniors.
The team has played eleven games
this season, ten of which have been
victories for Villanova. The game
with the Lancaster Tri-State team
has been the only one lost. The
game with the University of Penn
sylvania was won by Villanova.
While we do not feel that her suc
cessful record will be continued to
day and tomorrow, we do believe
strongly that our team needs the
support of every man on the side
lines. No man should allow even
the possibility of our team’s defeat
THE STATE COLLEGIAN
by his failure to cheer it on to vic
tory. Only the man who has played
the game can tell just what good
“rooting” is worth.
Fortunately, our schedule is not
open to the criticism that we have
no good games at home. In many
colleges, especially where the sys
tem of paid admission is still in
force, the students complain that all
of the best games are played away
from home. We surely have no
reason to complain in this respect
when strong teams such as Villa
nova, Dickinson, West Virginia, W.
U. P., and the Indians play on Bea
ver Field
Since our duty is plain, by all
means let every man of us turn out
to these games and, for that matter,
to every other game played at
home. Let the cheer leaders show
that they deserve the title, and if
State does not have two more vic
tories to her credit tomorrow even
ing, it cannot be said that it was be
cause of a lack of proper support of
the team.
Indications seem favorable for the
beginning of rifle practice early next
year. There is no obvious reason
why an art that is so essential in
military training should not be taken
up in connection with our military
department. It seems thac the only
thing lacking is means to pay for the
installation of the necessary equip
ment, a need which will no doubt be
provided for in the military appro
priation- With good scores would
come a rifle team, which might in
time be admitted to the National
Rifle Association.
A communication from Professor
Jackson in regard to a certain re
mark attributed to .him, which ap
peared in a recent issue, arrived too
late for publication. It seems that
the remark had an entirely different
meaning from the one which seemed
apparent, and the Collegian will
gladly publish his explanation as
soon as possible.
