EDITORIAL.
With this issue of the Collegian
the new editorial staff takes charge
of the paper. We must confess
that it is with a realization of the
duties and the responsibilities that we
assume control of the college week
ly! A comparison of the paper at
the present time with that of a year
ago shows a steady improvement, a
growth commensurate with the in
creasing influence of our college.
We shall use every effort to
make the paper the best that is
possible under the circumstances.
It must be remembered that the pri
mary aim of the Collegian is to be a
newspaper and not a literary publica
tion. It is published in the interests
of the whole student body and we
shall, work to the end that it may
continue to be representative of the
student life. While we do not be-
THE STATE COLLEGIAN
lieve in finding fau’t indiscriminately,
we believe that the best method of
righting a wrong is to state the truth
in regard to it. Any criticism, there
fore, which may be made will be
done in a spirit of justice and fair
mindedness.
Finally, we need your cooperation
in the work. We do not know
everything about publishing a paoer,
and any suggestions as to its im
provement will be gladly received.
Nor are we omniscient as to the
events and daily happenings in our
little community. If you know an
interesting bit of news, send it in.
By the proper spirit of cooperation
we may be able to accomplish the
best results and to produce a weekly
worthy of our college.
In the annual report of the Young
Men’s Christian Association which
occupies a considerable part of this
issue, an idea may be gained of the
work done by the Association dur
ing the past year. Such an organi
zation, purely unselfish in its pur
poses and which strives for the up
lifting of the moral and spiritual side
of a man’s character, deserves only
commendation.
“Honor to whom honor is due.”
By way of correcting the impression
which has recently been spread con
cerning the authorship of the song
“Alma Mater,” it should be said
that it was written by Professor F.
L. Pattee. Dr. Atherton composed
the song “Come Brothers Let Us
Raise the Song.”
The friends of Clarence G. Stoll,
1 ’O3, will be interested to know that
ihe has recently been married. Mr.
Stoll is with the Western Electric
Co. in New York City.
