    COLLEGE NOTES
Mrs. G. W. Atherton, widow
of our late president, has been
granted a pension by Andrew Car-
negie.
The friends of the young couple
will be interested to learn of the
marriage of Mr. C. Owen Brandt,
ex-’O9, and Miss Estella M. Long
enecker at Mt. Joy, Pa., on Jan
uary 9. Mr. F. K. Ross ex-’OB was
best man and Mr. A. M. Clay, 'O6,
of Norfolk, Va. acted as an usher.
The recent debate between
Swarthmore and Dickinson resulted
in a victory for the latter. The
State —Dickinson debate for the in
tercollegiate championship of Penn
sylvania will occur in the spring,
probably at Philadelphia.
Forestry at State,
Dr. B. E. Fernow, who has been
elected Professor of Forestry in the
School of Agriculture and Experi
ment Station of The Pennsylvania
State College, will be in State Col
lege on Jan. 28th to take up his
work in Forestry during the second
semester. A general course in For
estry will be offered, open to all
students in the College who may be
able to elect it and also for students
who wish to specialize in the study.
Fernow is the highest
exponent of Forestry in this country
and is noted as an inspiring teacher.
He was formery Chief of the Divi
sion of Forestry of the United
States Department of Agriculture
and later was Director, of the New
York State College of Forestry at
Cornell University.

fear that it may be charged.

boiler shop in operation; it is only
the exhaust from the village electric
light plant.

With sand enough to find a way
To make the dust for me. Ex.
“Is there an opening here for an
intellectual writer?” a.sked a seedy,
red-nosed individual.
“Yes, my friend,” replied the
editor, “A considerate carpenter,
foreseeing your visit, left an open
ing for you. Turn the knob to the
right.”—-Ex.
Through the influence of Senator
Knox and Representative Olmstead
of Pennsylvania, the attempt of the
sub-committee of the Senate Com
mittee on Indian Affairs to abolish
the Carlisle Indian School has been
defeated. The committee contended
that the famous old institution was
too far East to be of any practical
benefit to the redman.
