    Pieka,..ski's All. Pennsylvania
Eleven
State men will note with interest,
though not with approval, the All-
Pennsylvania eleven selected by
Frank Piekarski, who coached the
Washington and Jefferson team this
season. Piekarski is a former Uni
versity of Pennsylvania man, and
has been a player of exceptional
ability, having been chosen twice as
guard on the All-American eleven.
His choice is as follows :

In regard to the choosing of these
two teams we quote part of his ar-
"In choosing an All-Pennsylvania
football team one cannot help but
appreciate the host of material from
which he can choose a team which
would be able to defeat any aggre
gation which would be picked from
the same material. Very often it is
a tossup as to the superior ability of
one man over another and for this
reason it is but fair that a first and
second team be chosen.
W. T. DUNN
THE STATE COLLEGIAN
"At most, an All-Pennsylvania, or
for that matter an All-American
team, is but an honorary position
and the first and second teams simp
ly signify first and second honors.
"My field of selections includes all
the colleges in Pennsylvania. This
being the case, I must, of course,
exclude the Carlisle Indian school,
which has many excellent football
players, but not having college
eligibility rules and furthermore, not
being a college, its football players
are excluded from this selection.
"There are many qualities in a
a candidate to be considered in
placing him on this All-Pennsylvania
team. The new rules have changed,
to some extent, the qualifications of
payers for respective positions.
Nevertheless, a team still must have
defensive as well as offensive
strength in order to win. These two
qualities must be my guide in choos
ing each candidate."

It is rather hard to believe that
his selection is entirely impartial,
when we note that out of the first
eleven, not less than six are chosen
from Penn ! Besides this, one
of the Penn. men selected for guard,
Draper, has played tackle all the
fall and Piekarski would put him in
the list as the best guard in the
state. As for selecting six of the
Penn. men, we fail to understand
why Penn., if she has a team of
stars, as he would have us believe,
has failed to "produce the goods."
While we realize that the individual
members of teams cannot be judged
by comnarative scores, we believe
that the good work of those indi
vidual players is pretty sure to tell
on the sum total of the season's
scores.
