Second half :--Undismayed by
W. U. P's. remarkable defense,
State started in faster than ever.
Hirshman carried McKeown's kick
off 20 yards,and McCleary's 45 yard
punt was returned 15 by Swenson,
who played a star game all the way.
Burns threw Banbury for a two
yard loss, and Banbury's short
kick was luckily recovered by
Turner. Henry tackled Clancy for
no gain. Banbury kicked low and
Marshall got the ball on State's 30
yard line. Swenson set W. U. P.'s
stand to rocking by a 15 yard dash,
but McKeown missed a goal from
placement. McCleary kicked out
well from the 25 yard.line and Mc-
Keown's fumble was recovered by
Mehl. 'Throughout the game, W.
U. P. had all the luck in recovering
fumbles and kicks. Mehl made 2,
Banbury lost 4, and Banbury's punt
was blocked and secured by Cyph
ers. Henry gained 2, but it was W.
U. P.'s ball on a forward pass, and
Banbury got an onside kick for 25
yards advance. McKeown ran 12
yards on a forward pass, and Turn
er fell on an onside kick on State's
40 yard line. Here State held for
downs, and McCleary kicked 40
yards to Mehl, Campbell and Max
well both tackling hard. Swenson ran
15 yards to State's 15 yard line after
McCormick had gained 25 through
the recovery of an onside kick.
McKeown's place-kick was blocked
by Kunkle, but W. U. P. recovered
the ball. Desperate plunges by
Marshall and Swenson gained about
2 yards and McKeown failed at a
field goal. McCleary kicked out
from State's 25 yard mark, and then
like a thunderbolt the State players
pulled themselves together. A re
markable dive by Vorhis secured a
punt for State, and smashing through
the W. U. P. forwards, State's at
tack forced another punt, which
was blocked, and secured *by

victory was won !

Freshman—Sophomore Football
Game
The annual struggle between the
two lower classes will take place cn
Beaver Field next Saturday, Dec.
Bth. This contest has always been,
and promises once more to be, an
extremely interesting one, accom
panied by considerable enthusiasm
and a display of true inter-class
spirit. The Freshmen, by this
time, have acquired at least a fair
knowledge of the meaning of
"spirit," but they cannot grasp the
real significance until the class foot
ball game has passed.
Many times victory ha-, been due
largely to spirit, as was the case
when the 1908 football tam won
two years ago, and the ne w men can
rest assured that they must be there
with the "very same goods" in
order to win.
Every indication points to a good,
hard, clean contest, just as every
lower class football game has al
ways been. Each ..:11 have to
play hard to win and it is this "do
or die" spirit which every player ex
hibits that makes the match in
teresting from start to finish. 'ln
tense rivalry exists in all class con
tests, but' it is never shown more
particularly than in the football
game. Oftentimes the lower class
game is the best of the season on
Beaver Field, and it is expected that
