The STATE COLLEGIAN invites letters,
but the publication of a communication does
not necessarily imply the endorsement of the
sentiments contained therein. As a guaran
tee of good faith, the writer's name must be
signed, but will not be printed if so desired.
A Suggestion
For a year or more the question
of new bleachers for Beaver Field
has been hanging fire in the meet
ings of the Athletic Association.
At Cornell, Princeton, and other
colleges famous for their spirited
cheering, the practice is to mass the
entire Freshman class in a section
of the bleachers, and keep them
cheering constantly, led by cheer
leaders chosen from their own class.
Why cannot we erect bleachers
adjacent to the grandstand, where
the old bleachers stood, and make
it a custom that all Freshmen take
these seats during foot ball games
and other athletic contests?
Last Saturday a week the cheering
was pretty fair, but not within 100
percent of the real State spirit.
Let us repeat what we have said be
fore in the "Collegian " that each
succeeding year State's teams will
be just as good, but not one iota
better, except when the spirit mani
fested by the student body in
creases. It is college spirit that has
made State's teams in the past, and,
we sincerely hope, will make them
greater than ever in the future.
Every man on our foot ball squad
is working like a Trojan every after
noon out on Beaver Field, and it is
the positive duty of every man in
our student ranks to help whenever
he can. For it is "Our Varsity," win
or lose, and there are none better
nywhere on Earth.
Signed—A Student.
To the students of State College:

though a production of the Junior

year of all classes. In order to
THE STATE COLLEGIAN
make it a book of wider scope, we
hereby invite all college men to con
tribute material appropriate for this
publication.' It may be some class
room happening, an appropriate
poem, or a sketch. Anything ap
propriate will receive cat eful atten
tion. Material for this purpose may
be handed to any member of the
bawd or dropped in the La Vie
room, 373 Main. We hereby solicit
your kind co-operation in making an
interesting and valuable Annual for

A New Chemical Journal
In the library of the Department
of Chemistry is now to be found
a new periodical, which is of inter
est to students of State, if for no
other reason than that so many State
College chemists are connected with
its publication.
It is the Journal of the American
Leather Chemists Association and
is now about closing the first year
of its existence. W. H. Teas, '97,
is the editor and a past president of
the association; C. W. Norris is
the vice-president ,while J. H. Yo
cum and E. J. Haley are members
of the council. Among the con
tributors and other experts who fig
ure in its production are Chas.
Eachus, J. V. R. Evans, T. J.
Mosser, W. A. Fox, M. S. McDow
ell, and possibly some others whom
we may have overlooked. In fact,
we calculate that something like
forty per cent. of the activity of this
new association owes its existence
to State College influence and in
spiration.
We are glad to welcome this new
contribution to chemical literature,
to congratulate its editors on their
very successful occupation of a large
and important field, and to hope
that their Journal may long continue
to thrive
