A Splendid Victory
In one of the most signal foot
ball victories ever achieved, State last
Saturday defeated the Carlisle In
dians at Williamsport. The game
was played on a soft, slippery field,
and in a driving rain, but the Blue
and White outplayed the famous
Redmen so decisively at every
point that the final score, 4to 0,
does not indicate by any means the
real strength of the two teams.
McCleary's beautiful goal from
placement won the game for State,
but the Indians were exceedingly
fortunate to escape at least two
touchdowns. The White and
Blue warriors gained so consistent
ly all through the battle, that the
Carlisle braves were swept off their
feet, and looked slow in comparison
with their opponents. The officials'
work was high class in every re
spect, and the entire game so clean
ly and swiftly played that the crowd
of 4000 people, who braved the ele
ments, were delighted. State's 500
student rooters did themselves proud
and about 100 Bucknell students
cheered for State at every oppor
tunity. This is the first foot ball
victory State has ever gained over
the Indians, and every man, past or
present, may well feel proud of the
clean and sportsmanlike manner in
which it was won.
At exactly 2:29 the Indian squad,
45 strong, dashed upon the gridiron,
followed, a few moments later, by
the squad of 30 State men.
Referee Al Sharpe called the
squads together for a talk concern
ing clean play, and Captain "Moth
er" Dunn, State's big center-rush
was seen shaking hands good
haturedly with Exendine, the In-

The Junior Banquet
The Junior class this year held its
banquet at the Park Hotel in Wil
liamsport, Friday, October 5.
About seventy members of 1908
were there to do justice to the "vit
tles," and help make things lively.
The menu consisted of the usual
banquet' feed,"and the Juniors lived
up their reputation of being good
feeders. After the boards had been
cleared, Buller, the toastmaster,
called for the following toasts :--
Our Class W. B. Geise
The New System C. M. Piper
Wearers of the "S"..W. W. Smith
The Queens W. G. Ross
The Chase M. B. Gerhard
A Few Years Hence. . R. B. Meckley
Remarks
About 3 a.m. the affair broke up
and the jolly Juniors marched down
the streets of Williamsport, singing
college songs until the guardians of
the peace of the Lumber City ob
jected.
The Glee Club
Immediately after the opening of
college, the Glee Club re-organized
and held an election of officers for
the ensuing year. At present, the
prospects for a successful season are
very good, and this year's club will
undoubtedly be much better than
even that of last year. The men,
who qualified for positions at the
trials, have now strengthened the
club's membership to 21, 17 of
whom are regular members and 4
are substitutes. This is the largest
club that has ever represented Penn
State, and from the interest which
is now being shown, it will, in all
probability, be one of the best.
It is the intention of •the manage
ment to take two trips this year ;
legit: 4 V
one East and the other West. Ar
rangements for an eastern trip dur
ing Christmas week are now being
made, while partial arrangements
have already been made for the
western trip during the Easter va
cation. Besides these two trips, the
club is booked for an engagement at
the Teachers' Institute which will
be held in Bellefonte next month.
The officers for this year are as
follows :—Leader, H. P. Dawson,
'O7; Manager, N. R. Wright, '08;
Assistant Manager, W. K. Ross,'o9.
