    State 2; Lafayette 1
Continued from first paxe
thunder of excited applause and shot
a beautiful single into right field.
Thompson advanced him to second
with a fine sacrifice, and then
Pearce's line fly was captured by
Wack. With two out it was up to
Mason, who ended the excitement
by planting the ball over second for
a single, Mcllveen scoring the win
ning tally. This is the first baseball
victory a "State" nine has every
gained over Lafayette, and there
has never been a finer all-around
exhibition of baseball on Beaver
Field. But one game remains on
Manager Himes' schedule,the Com
mencement contest with the strong
Villanova team. Notwithstanding a
long series of injuries and discourage
ments this season, our 'Varsity nine
has thus far made the grand record
of 13 victories, and only 5 defeats,
and they are all determined to close
the season with a glorious victory at
Commencement.
