learned right well what worthy fore
men are the warriors of the "White
and Blue."
Although in the matter of strike
outs Deshon had the better of Mc-
Ilveen, yet it cannot be said that
Cornell's star box man was in any
measure the more effective, since
Mcllveen had Cornell's batters so
securely under his thumb that near
ly all their efforts resulted in pop
flies or easy infield grounders, while
the sum total of hits on both sides
was six. State had eleven men left
on bases to only six for Cornell, and
numerous times did State have men
on bases with a sure score in sight,
only to be thwarted by fast fielding
or superb pitching. The "squeeze
play" failed no less than three times,
any one of which meant victory;—
showing how desperately State
strove for the winning tally. At
Cornell it ;s the sentiment that this
game is the finest ever witnessed on
Percy Field, and although it was
not State's fortune to triumph, there
is some satisfaction in losing a bat-
tle to such courteous,
like rivals as the Cornellians have
proved themselves.
