COLLEGE ORBIT. Dr. Abram M. Harris, of the Tome Institute, Port Deposit, Ind., will become the new president to the Northwestern university. President Faunce, of Brown Uni versity, is spoken of as a likely suc cessor of the late President Harper, of Chicago University. Ohio State University offers a course in the art and science of making pottery. Such a course has never beforebeen given by aninstitu-. tion iii this country. Andrew L. Smith, ex-full back on University of Pennsylvania, and formerly of State, has commenced libel suit against the editor of Mc- Clure’s magazine for statements made in that magazine, last summer, concerning him. At the University of Michigan an organization has recently been effected to superintend class elec tions and investigate graft on the part of students at the head of college publications or social functions. All departments of the college elected members to the body which is to be called the Senior Council. The late Dr. W. R. Harper re ceived his B. A. degree at the age of 14, and his Ph. D. degree at the age of 19. His commencement ora tion was delivered in Hebrew when he was but 14 years old. Dean Wright of Yale says that the collecting together of rich stu dents in expensive dormitories as at Yale and Harvard, puts scholarship in a second place and tends to limit social advantages to the favored few. It is claimed that the new tutorial system at Princeton is changing, to a large extent, the students’ general conversation. The frequent infor mal meetings in the preceptors' studies where only intellectual mat ter is discussed is accountable for this. THE STATE COLLEGIAN COLLEGE NOTES. The streets of the town are soon to be lighted with Nernst lamps. The trials for the freshman debat ing team are to be held Saturday night. A branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association has been or ganized in State College as the result of Miss Brinkerhoff’s visit here last month. Miss Brinkerhoff repre sents the Y.W.C.A. as Student Sec retary in Pennsylvania and Mary land. Cotillion Club. The first of a series of informal dancing parties will be held in Mc- Allister Hall on Saturday evening, March 10, from eight to twelve o’clock.
