The Baseball Out Look, Continued, from page / getting in shape to make good at eith er second base or in the out field. Brandt, ’O9, a star Mercersburg pitcher and out-fielder has been lost to the team by reason of failure in his recent examinations. For the extra pitcher, “Peg” Mc- Gee, Sankey, Leonard, Dodge, Fawkes, and Mitinger, who had good experience at Allegheny Col lege, are all in the race, and a good twirler shpuld certainly be develop ed from among these half dozen candidates. For the Substitute catcher’s posi tion the choice seems to lie between Staud, 'O7, Conklin, ’O7, and Fos ter, ’O9, with the balance slightly in favor of the former by reason of his possession of an exceptionally strong and accurate throwing arm. In left field one of the three ’Var sity twirlers will be used, although it may require considerable experi menting before the strongest 'Var sity combination is gotten together. The unparalleled difficulty of the schedule arranged by Manager Himes surely confronts State’s ’O6 nine with a big task, and it will re quire the very best efforts of every 'Varsity man, along with a lot of the good old “State” spirit to pull the “White and Blue” nine victoriously through this coming campaign. The splendid record of last year’s team has established the highest possible standard for this year’s 'Varsity. Appropriations The so called Adams’ Bill increas ing the national appropriation to Agricultural Experiment Stations from $15,000 to $20,000 per year at once with a subsequent increase of $2,000 per year until the total reaches $30,000, was passed by the United States House of Representa tives on February 15th. This is very agreeable news for the local station. We hope for the THE STATE COLLEGIAN COLLEGE NOTES. Walter Lorah, ’O6, is at his home suffering with typhoid fever.
