ing men, at the solicitation of the
student committee, aiiived in town
to look into the affair: Gen. Beaver,
president, and Col. Woodward, of
the Board of Trustees, and H. W.
Mitchell, '9O, president, and A. C.
Reed, ’92, of the Alumni Associa
tion. These men, forming a trustee
alumni committee, attended a stu
dent mass meeting and listened to
the grievances. At their request the
president appointed a faculty com
mittee to meet the student and the
trustee-alumni committees for the
purpose of arbitration. Thus the
students accomplished their desire
to ague personally their side of the
case before members of the faculty.
The meeting of the three com
mittees took place last Tuesday af
ternoon about an hour after the
mass meeting. After matters were
discussed thoroughly on all sides the
points as stated below were 'arrived
at. All the Division Officers will
have daily office hours. The stu
dents have the privilege is carry to
the Division Officer, President and
Trustees, objections to methods used
by any of the instruction force. If
the studenls returned to college it
was promised that no methods of
retaliation would be used against
them either individually or collec
tively ; also that work would be
taken up where it left off, that is, it
would r.ot be necessary for the stu
dents to make up the time lost.
It was, however, impossible to
clear up everyihing in the short time.
It is the opinion on both sides that
the rules regaiding attendance at
recitations will be greatly revised.
The student committee was given the
piivilege to meet the faculty com
mittee at some future time and have
a voice in making recommendations to
the trustees regarding holidays. As
to the Thanksgiving vacation the
students will be given either the va
cation requested in the petition or a
