Basketball.
With the closing of the football
season at the W. U. P. game inter
est will be transferee! to basketball.
Practice will begin shortly after the
Thanksgiving recess. With the ex
ception of Captain Dunn, who gradu
ated last year, all the old Varsity
men, five in number, will again ap
pear on the floor. There is also an
abundance of new material so that
prospects for a successful basketball
team are unusually bright,
Thus far the schedule has not
been completed but it is probable
that no regular games will be played
before Christmas. The eastern trip,
with a few changes, will be again
taken in February and it is possible
that another trip will be arranged
for.
Last year’s season was a yery suc
cessful one, such teams as U. of P.,
Dickinson, (twice), F. & M., Wy
oming, and Altoona A. A. being de
feated while Swarthmore and Al
toona secured the only victories from
State.
Captain Heaton will probably
make his call for candidates early
next week. All new men, and old
as well, should come out as an
abundance of material always makes
the men work hard for their posi
tions.
Durno the Magician
The second entertainment of the
Y. M. C. A. course will take place
on Friday evening, December 8,
when Durno the magician will give
his marvelous exhibition of sleight
of-hand.
Durno comes here well recomend
ed and his entertainment is of high
order. Tickets for seats in the Au
ditorium may be secured at Meek’s.
Everyone turn out and spend an en
joyable evening.

Battalion Review.
The review of the Cadet Battalion,
which is ordinarly one of the most
interesting and popular attractions
that the college has to -offer its
Pennsylvania Day guests, was un
fortunately marred on Friday last by
a cold and disagreable shower which
not only kept spectators away, but
also robbed the occasion of much of
its usual spirit and ceremony. Major
General Miller, who was to review
the Battalion, felt obliged to attend a
banquet given to the military
notables at the Schenley Hotel,
Pittsburg, but had secured Col. Cur
tin, of Bellefonte, who is the ranking
Colonel of the Pennsylvania National
Guard, in his place.
Col. Curtin was much pleased
with the marching and pronounced
the lines of the companies as they
passed the reviewing party to be
better than those Kept by National
Guard men. This, considering the
slippery and uneven ground, is a
high compliment, and reflects great
credit upon Captain Hay and his
cadet officers.

There will be an informal social
held in room 529, Main, on Friday
evening after Thanksgiving for those
students who are unable to go home
for the vacation. Previous occasions
of this nature have proved very en
joyable and this -year’s should be no
exception. There will be a general
good time and “something to eat.”
Everyone is invited. Come and en
