Letter to “ State Collegian Mr. Editor: — I am not a kicker by nature, but I think that this order concern ing the removal all tacks from the walls of the College dormitories is unreasonable. Would like to know why we pay $5O 00 a piece for rooms, unless we are to enjoy the privilege of fixing them up and making them as com fortable as possible. And how is one to decorate his room without the use of a reasonable number of tacks or small nails ? The hanging of pictures from the picture rail by means of hooks is not practicable, because the average college man’s decorations consist not of framed pictures, but chiefly of photographs, pennants, unframed pictures, sporting goods, etc., arid any fair-minded man can clearly see that it would require large importa tions of “ingenuity” to ariange these attractively by hanging them from the top of the room. The fellows who room in private houses have rooms, bedding, and atten dance for the same price for which we get the bare room. Besides, every year in our damage account there are items for ‘ ‘ personal dam ages” and “college damages.” If there were no tacks in the walls, would either of these items disap pear ? Most of the fellows would rather have the use of tacks with a small damage assessment than not to have the use of tacks and still get the assessment, for of course the assesment is always made. Anything that tends to make col lege life more attractive away up here out of civilization should be al lowed, especially when we are pay ing for it. Besides, if we took the tacks out now the holes would be there, so why not wait until the end of the college year ? I think lam expressing the sentiment of the stu dent-bod/ when I declare in the language of Teddy that we are not getting a “ square deal.” U PPER-CLASSM AN THE STATE COLLEGIAN 111 |— fV I STANDARD PORTABLE KZi S -*■ DIRECT READING -H- Weston Standard Portable Voltmeter WL.
