Fall Trials.
The fall trials in track athletics
occurred .Saturday afternoon on
Beaver Field, praccecng the foot
ball game between Gettysburg and
State. The tria’s were held for new
men to win their team caps and the
privilege of wearing the college a h
letic suit. Only three men succeed
ed in attaining the required tine or
distance, these being S. S. Sadler,
’O9, in the high jump, G. L. Strayer
’lO, in the pole vau’t, and S W.
Armsby ’O3 in the high hurdles.
Strayer did particularly well in the
pole vault clearing ten feet wi.hout
previous practice this fall.
The time of 11 seconds in the
hundred yard dash was also good,
as it was made against the wind and
on a slow track.
Following is the summary with
the name of winner only:
100 —yard dash, Fox 'O9. time
11 seconds.
120 —yard hurdles, Armsby 'OB,
time 17 1-5 seconds.
140 —yard dash, Fox ’O9, time
58 1-5 seconds.
Mile run, Acheson ’O9, 5 minutes
36 seconds.
2 —mile run, Smith 'OB, 11 min
utes 4S 2-5 seconds.
220 —yard hurdles, Tross ’O9, 31
seconds.
High jump, Sadler ’O9, 5 feet 2
inches.
Broad jump, Strayer ’lO, 19 feet
9 inches.
Pole vault, Strayer ’lO, 10 feet.
No contest took place in the 220
yard dash, half-mile, or in the
weight events.
