Football Continued from page / down with a vicious thump on Leather’s tackle. McCreary got a bare yard at Barr’s end, and Fisher couldn’t budge the center, so the oval was sent sailing back to Harm on for a punt. Old reliable ‘‘Mother” Dunn broke through the line like a streak and blocked Harmon’s punt beautifully, Leonard falling on the ball. Then “Bill” Wray smashed tackle for 5 yards, Gotwals prodded through for 4, Mc- Gee fought his way for 8 more, Yeckley rounded right end for 15, and McGee hurdled for a touch down, all in 1 1-2 minutes, Don Miller kicking the goal. And then with State’s yells thundering across Beaver Field, the team kept up this pace all through the second half, rolling-up a total of 29 points; and trying out successfully several new formations invented by Coaches Golden and Scholl. Califor nia worked the various “shift” plays very smoothly, and Harmon’s consistent punting helped to keep the score down. On the the ends Leathers and Barr displayed excellent form, while at the tackle positions Wray, Got wals, and McWilliams all carried the ball in grand fashion. Dunn at center was a tower of strength as usual; Shaw, Leonard, and Cyphers performed credibly at guard, and both the backfield combinations were very satisfactory,—Yeckley, Miller, and McGee, being replaced by Part ridge, Behee, and Zink respectively, and Henry by Moorhead. Partridge’s 45 yard run for a touchdown near the close of the second half showed the spirit which State’s men were putting into the the game, for “Partie” shot into a solid mass of California tacklers on a line plunge, so that a five yaid gain was all to be looked for. But the wonderful “helping” given by nearly every man in State’s eleven THE STATE COLLEGIAN dragged Partridge fully fifteen yards, and then pulled him entirely free of the bunch, and allowed a clear field for a touch down. The big Carlisle Indian game comes off in a few days; —Remem- ber this, —and remember how our cheering last Saturday helped to make our ’Varsity play in true “State” style. Every man of us must get out and cheer the eleven as thev practice on Beaver Field these few days more. Whether or not we are going to Harrisburg, —for that does not matter, —the idea is to show our ’Varsity men that we are for them all the time. Those of us who do not go to Hanisburg will wait here in “Old Main” all too anxiously for the score, and we all want to feel that we are with them in spirit every minute. And those of us who do go to this game intend to come back with our voices miss ing but loyalty plus. Walking is Good A large number of students walked to Pine Hall last Saturday evening to partake in the festivities which were carried on there last week. The college band was engaged to give selections during the evening which were well rendered consider ing the fact that the band has had scarcely a weeks training. It is not necessary to say that the boys en joyed themselves.
