Princeton and Chicago Universi
ties are taking steps toward reorgani
zation on the plan of Oxford and
Cambridge. It is thought that by
having a number of separate colleges
under one management, the advan
tages of a small college will be com
bined with those of the great uni
versity.
In an address before the Alumni
of Stevens Institute, Andrew Car
negie said that sport was too largely
taking the place of study at the big
colleges ; that he thought a young
man receives a better education at
the smaller college than at the larger
one ; and that he intends to transfer
his attention, to a great extent, from
libraries to the small colleges.
The honor system has been adopt
ed at Swarthmore.
Syracuse Ui iversity is now out of
debt for the first time in thirty years,
as a result of a recent bequest of
$50,000.
