The Cuban Government has grant
ed the Berlin Wireless Telegraph
Company permission to establish
two stations on the island.
A sixty inch telescope, the largest
of its kind in actual use, has been
installed in the astronomical observa
tory at Harvard University. The
mechanism will be operated entirely
by electricity.
The general Electric Company
has established wireless telegraph
communications between Schenectad
and Lynn. It was found that mes
sages intended for the Maiccni sta
tion at Cape Cod could be received
at Schenectady.
Orders have been filed with the
Westinghouse Company to equip a
power house for the electrical oper
ation of gold dredging boats in
Alaska. Dawson City will be the
location of the power house and ar
rangements will be made by which
the boats, when in position for
dredging, can be electrically con
nected to feed wire extending along
the river. An extensive use will be
made of electrical machinery. The
Parsons steam turbine will act as
prime mover.

Cornell will soon have a new ath

The libraries at Yale contain 390,-
000 volumes.
A new medical college has lately
been opened at Vermont Univer
sity.
Each member of the Senior class

By order of the faculty of the
University of Texas, the Greek let
ter fraternities have been forbidden
to pledge students before Nov. 1, of

Mr. Carnegie has donated $50,-
000 to Lebanon Valley College to
aid them leplace their dormitory and
main building which were destroyed
by fire during Christmas vacation.
The Chicago University students
have protested against the presence
of the coeds in the library of the law
department asserting that their pres
ence there interferes with serious
woik.
Coach Stagg, of Chicago Univer
sity is discouraging the use of spiked
shoes. He believes the men can
run just as well with plain shoes
when they get used to them.
A discussion .has taken place in
the Hartford Board of Trade as to
the advisabilty of establishing a
trade school in connection with
Trinity College.
According to statistics, New York
University incurs an average annual
expense of $lOO per man for in
struction, Columbia and Barnard
about $3OO, Harvard about $3OO
and Yale over $2OO.
The famous Harvard class of 1880
of which President Roosevelt is a
member, will celebrate its twenty
fifth anniversity next June by mak
ing the college a gift without restric
tions of a hundred thousand dollars
in cash.

There still seems to be some ques
tion as to the classes of books, and
the relations of readers thereto, per
haps a plain re-statement will be
helpful. Copies of the Regulations
may be obtained at the Library.
The Library is primarily a refer
ence library. The greatest good to
the greatest number is thus assured,
the entire resources of the Library
being directly available at all times
to any reader or student. Limited
circulation privileges are, however,
provided.
All books in the Library belong to
one of three classes, designated (R),
(C), and (RC) respectively.
The (R) class are strictly for
reference purposes, and do not cir
culate.
Class (C) embraces about 1500
works of Fiction, Poetry, Travel,
Essays, etc., —these circulate for
one week and are subject to one
renewal.
The (R C) class includes about
18000 volumns, the main part of the
collection. Books of this class may
be taken out from 5 P. M. of one
day until 9 A. M. of the following
day, except that books drawn Sat
urday must be returned on Monday
by 9 A. M.
These three classes of books (R),
(C) and (RC) are plainly marked
upon the book plate on inner sur
face of front binding, and upon vol
ume label on lower edge of book.
