Freshman Banquet.
Although coming little later in
the term than has been the custom
for a year past, the Freshman class
pulled off their annual banquet very
successfully. The incidents connect
ed with the departure for the scene of
the festivities, Williamsport, were a
little more exciting than last year’s
affair. On the stroke of the 9.30
bell, Wednesday morning, all the
members of the class attending reci
tations and college work in general,
dropped whatever they were doing
and bolted for the doors. The rende
vous was Krumrine’s Crossing on
the Bellefonte Central railroad where
a special was in waiting to take them
directly to Williamsport. The great
majority managed to arrive in time
but some were compelled to wait un
til noon. The Sophs were present in
force at the station however so the
“ leftovers ” had to adopt strenuous
methods in order to get away.
Some drove to Bellefonte while
others went around by way of Mon
tandon on the 2.28 from Lemont.
There were one hundred and five
present at the Park Hotel when the
banquet commenced. After the
good things composing the excellent
menu had been stored away. Toast
master W. M. Ferguson called on
the following to respond to toasts:

The impromptues which followed
the regular order were also highly
entertaining. The banquet broke
up at late hour with the class yell.
The committee who so cleverly
planned and successfully carried out
all the arrangements, was composed
of A. H. Higson, Chairman, W. B.
Geise, D. H. Plank, S. S. Riddle,
and H. A. Zink.

Accompanied by “ Andy ” Lytle
and “ Pop ” Golden, our basketball
team left on its eastern trip last Tues
day,February 21. After a nine hours
ride the boys arrived in Philadelphia
and registered at the Planover.
Wednesday morning and afternoon
were spent in sight seeing.
The first game was played that
evening with the University of Penn
sylvania team. The boys seemed to
play rings around the Philadel
phians and at no time was the re
sult in doubt. We started scoring
early in the game and held the lead
throughout the contest. State was
well blessed with rooters, many of
them Philadelphians. ’ The final
score was 29 to 24 in favor of State.

The Swarthmore game was some
what different. Some say we were
dopey while others say it was a case
of swelled head. “Andy” Lytle says
that it happened because he didn’t
root hard enough. Be that as it
may, we were beaten badly. Al
though Swarthmore was generally
in the lead the score was kept close
until the latter part of the second
half when Moorhead was injured
and forced to retire. The boys
then seemed to lose all courage and
Swarthmore ran up their side of the
score. The game resulted with
the score 35-16 in favor of Swarth-

In the Franklin and Marshall game
at Lancaster we encountered a very
slippery floor. The first part of
this game seemed to be a repetition
of the Swarthmore contest. Our
boys shot in hard luck, proba
bly on account of the strangeness of
the baskets. The first half ended
17-8 in favor of F. and M. Until
within about seven minutes of the
end of'the second half, with the
score 25-16 in F. and M.’s favor,
our boys did no better. Then State
took a brace, a wonderful brace.
In that short time our side of the
score was advanced from 16 to 33
while F. and M. succeeded in getting
only two points. This was the first
game that F. and M. has lost on her
