Now that we have succeeded in
obtaining a secure foundation we
are able to devote some time to ex
changes. Up to date very few
magazines have arrived, owing,
probably, to the' earliness of the
year. However, those at hand are
very good. As the. exchange col
umn of a college weekly is general
ly conducted, the reading matter is
of no interest to any one except the
editors. This year we will depart
a little from the custom and print
mostly clippings and well written
extracts that will be of interest to
all our readers as well.

Poverty, the chastisement of the
poor, should work refinement in
them. It is the curse poverty
that when a man is poor he cannot
give up sordid ambition. Ambi
tion is their fruit of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil. On
account of it he understands the
difference of state between himself
and another, rebels at his own state
and falls under the rebuke of neces
sity. Impotent he finds himself to
better his outward estate.
