State’s base ball team started on its Eastern trip, the first of
the season, on Friday morning April 15th. The nine crossed
bats that afternoon with Bloomsburg Normal. The weather was
fine, and both teams went forth with equal self-confidence, but the
pitching of Haverstick, and his excellent all round support, soon
told that the visitors would be the' victors. Different times, when
two men were on bases, and but one out, the cool' headed
“midget” sent the ball meandering over the plate to the utter dis
gust of the batters. The score:

On the following day, Saturday, April 16th, the State team
met the West Point nine, by which they were defeated by a close
score of 1 to o. The day was cold, and a strong wind blowing
down the Hudson added to the disagreeable weather. The good
pitching .of Mcllveen, in keeping the number of hits down to two,
was the main feature of the game. The losing of the gam* may
be attributed io poor base running and a wild throw by Mason in
the ninth inning, which was caused by. his having been*,hit on
The Eastern Trip.
