permits the boys to dine in shirt waists, but positively forbids
them to roll up their sleeves.
—Dr. Francis Pott, president of St. John’s College, Shanghai,
China, is visiting in Boston. Mr. Pott is a graduate of Colum
bia University. Plis wife was a daughter of the first 'Chinaman
who came to this country to be educated. Dr. Pott is the author
of a number of Chinese books, including a “Life of Christ,” and
several scientific treatises.
—The will of Mrs. Mary Winthrop bequeaths $2,130,000 to
the Princeton Theological Seminary.
—During his Western trip, President Roosevelt visited Leland
Stanford University. Pie was most enthusiastically received by
President Jordan and the student body.
—Cornell Freshmen gave their banquet at the Lyceum Theatre.
The Sophomores preceded the feast by marching twenty-five of
the Freshmen through the streets, painted in fantastic colors. At
one time during the proceedings a rush occurred and many men
were hurt.
—The undergraduates of Princeton raised $l,OOO to furnish a
room in the new Institutional Club building at Manila. Other
American universities will do the same.
The second Eastern base ball trip was disastrous for State in
the way of scores. Nevertheless, Rohrbach’s men did that which
many other strong college teams would like to do—defeat Ford-
Yale defeated State by a score of 4 to 1. The game was well
played and Yale seemed to fear that she would lose. But, of
course, this could never happen.
