afternoon. Monday afternoon is assigned to Company A, Tues day' to Company B, Wednesday to Company C and Thursday to Company D. This is more target practice than has ever been given here. Heretofore the desultory target practice was dis tinctly optional. This feature of military training Is vastly im portant, for of what avail would be the skill in drill if the cadet could not fire a gun should occasion ever call him to the test ? • VISIT. OF THE SENATE COMMITTEE. The committee consisting of about twenty Senators arrived at the College at 2 P. M. Thursday, March sth, and were immedi ately conveyed by the college hacks to the different buildings of the various departments. When the inspection had been com pleted the party adjourned to the chapel about 5 o'clock, where the students had assembled. Dr. Atherton gave an address of welcome to the committee on behalf of the Faculty and students. He presented the needs of the students in a forcible manner. Captain Cumings, of Warren county, acting chairman of the committee, was the first speaker. He expressed himself as being highly pleased with the institution, and appreciated the great work which was being done here. He said he would do all in his power for the institution. Senator Fischer, of Indiana county, spoke very commendably of the college and the work being done here. .Short speeches were made by Senator Dewalt, of Lehigh county ; Senator Edmiston, of Bradford county, and Senator Patton, of Centre county. General Beaver next spoke in behalf of the trustees, and made one of the most forcible and powerful speeches he has ever made at the college. He enumerated the perplexing problems which confronted the trustees, and showed how the Legislature could help solve them' if they. would. President Atherton entertained the committee at dinner. In the evening at 8 o'clock the committee , witnessed an athletic exhibition in the armory, gotten up by Mr. Golden for their benefit. The programme was as follows
