Infantry and sent to Michigan, but returned three months before the outbreak of the Spanish War. He was active in the Puerto Rican campaign, and then returned to the States for six months as a recruiting officer in the South. Capt. Lawton then served three years in the Philippines, and returned to the United States in July of this year ; was appointed to "State" in September. To fill the vacancy left by the resignation of W. M. Towle, As sistant Professor of Practical Mechanics, W. H. Parker has been secured by the college authorities. Prof. Parker is a graduate of the St. Louis Manual Training School and of Washington Uni versity, St. Louis. He was instructor for five years in the Throop Polytechnic Institute, Pasadena, Cal., and then spent one year in public school work. He comes to us from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va., where he spent four years as instructor in machine work. Miss Harriet A. Nichols comes to State this year as an in structor in French. She is a graduate of Leland Stanford, Jr., University, of California. Miss Nichols has also studied in France and Germany. As an instructor in the High Schools of San Diego and Covina, Cal., she was very successful, and we look for greater success here. As an instructor in Chemistry, there comes to us this year Prof. Levi P. Wyman. He graduated from Colby College in 1896, with a degree of A. B. In 1899 he received the degree of A. M. Prof. Wyman was for four years principal of the High School at Denis, Mass. For the past two years he has been taking graduate work in the University of Pennsylvania, and received the degree of Ph. D. in June of this year. Mr. John Henry Frizzell, who takes the place of Mr. Adams in the English Department, is a native of East Hampton, Mass. He graduated from the Williston Seminary in 1898, then entered Amherst, and graduated in 1902 with the A. B. degree. Mr. Frizzell is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
