a periodical depends largely on the quality of the editorial
board, and as is the case with most college journals the editors
must assume the responsibility of doing nearly all of the
writing. From this it will be seen how important it is to
elect capable men.
Believing that the following qualities should be posessed
by every man who undertakes to assist the editing of a
magazine, we would offer the following which should serve
as a guide in the several class elections. First of all, a candi
date should possess some literary ability and should have
demonstrated it by taking an active part in that kind of
work. The responsibility that rests upon a board of editors
is not of a minor nature. A college monthly is intended to
reflect the interests and the spirit of the institution it repre

and failure the reward of its own efforts, but it is a positive
injury to the institution itself. It is to be hoped that this

be, must be continually on the alert for something new and
of interest to his readers. The task and duties of such a
position are not light by any means, and it is to be hoped
that men who allow themselves to be elected should be fully
made aware of the work that will be required of them.
As a third qualification it might be added that an editor
should possess some business ability. The business matters
connected with the several departments of the magazine,
while mostly relegated to the business manager, devolve to
a certain extent on every member; and since the person
chosen as editor-in-chief must be elected from the editorial
board, it is of prime importance that each man possess a
certain amount of tact
,for management. If these few sug
gestions are given some consideration, we are sure that the
