The annual relay meet, held at Franklin field, Phila
delphia, April 27, under the auspices of the University of
Pennsylvania, closed with the name of State College among
the winners. State’s class was composed of Dickinson, Buck
nell, Carlisle Indians, Ursinus, Gettysburg, and Franklin
and Marshall, but the three lastn amed did not compete.
The race is said to have been among the best.
Cummings ran the first quarter for State. He had the
lead at first, but he had been ill the two days before, and
could not hold the pace. The teams finished the first quar
ter in this order:—Dickinson, Carlisle, Bucknell, and State.
Miles ran next for State, passed two of his opponents, and
finished second, Dickinson being first, and Carlisle and Buck
nell respectively third and fourth. Mott ran next. He held
his own, and State finished second again. Dickinson had a
big lead and it looked as though State would be second,
rather than first, but Martin, of State, in a fine run, not on
ly caught up with Dickinson’s runner, but passed him and
State 12! —■
