The Editor’s Desk. With this issue the Lance beg'ins a new volume, under the management of a new editorial board. That our imme diate predecessors have been rather negligent we must admit, and since they made no excuse for themselves, we will not make one for them; but will leave each reader to make his own criticism. This negligence, however, has left the magazine in a bad way, so that the responsibilities to be assumed by each new staff of editors are made greater for us. But Spring has come. And everywhere new life is spring ing - from the ashes and decay of the old. And it whispers of new hope, and new promise of execution. So let it be with us. We have shouldered these greater responsibilities, noL gladly, yet with a determination to do our best to bring - the Lance back to the high standard it has oft times held. What our abilities are, and what our efforts will accomplish, we leave for time to reveal. It is much to our regret tliaL we must begin the new volume with an apology and an excuse. But through no fault of the present editorial board this is sueis several weeks late. The reason being that the board was about three weeks late in being elected and organized. And even when organized it found the Lance without any reserve arti cles for publication, and without credit with the publishers. We have hustled it as fast as possible, and will do even bet ter in the future. Below we publish an article by a former Lditor which should be of interst to all. & & & & &
