    STATE VS. WASHINGTON AND JUIDEERSON.
UNDUR this head we have to chronicle one of the vilest
deeds ever perpetrated upon a college foot ball field. W.
and J. came to State College with but one intention and
that to defeat State at any cost. So finding that as the galme
progressed her chances of winning were growing more dim, she
resorted to a game that is a disgrace to any college. It is true that
State endeavored to cancel the game, but the student body would
not consent, not knowing the class of men with which they had to,
deal. But they have learned a dear lesson which would have
been avoided had Coach Boyle been listened to.
The io minutes of play which was completed was dirty ball
from the start, W. and J. endeavOring to put a man out the first
rush. The ball was then pushed down the field by W. and J. for

to W. and J's 45 -yard line. Then Bird kicked 38 yards out of

Then W. and J. held for downs, and got °the ball and carried it
by short plunges and a kick to State's 22-yard line, when it was
out of bounds. State's ball. Burns was given the ball for an
end run and skirted the end for 7o yards, when he was tackled
from behind by Core out of bounds. Reed came running across
the field and when within a few feet of Burns, who was still pros
trate on the ground out of bounds, jumped and landed with both
knees on Burns' chest, incapacitating him for play for the time
being. Reed seeing what he had done started to arise when the
crowd, unable to control itself, started upon the field and used
him in a manner not in accord with the treatment of guests; but
the most popular just then. A general outburst was only pre
vented by the immediate action of some of the students.
-Everybody who saw the play unites in saying that it was the
dirtiest play they ever saw in a foot ball game. The officials, de-
