The Department of Mechanical Engineering has received com plete sets of detail blue prints of Corliss Engines from the follow ing firms:—Wm. Todd & Co., Youngstown, Ohio; Vilter Mfg. Co, Milwaukee, Wis.; Atlas Engine Works, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Bass Foundry and Machine Co., Fort Wayne, Ind. The Mechanical Department has also received, through the interest of Admiral Melville, engineer-in -chief of the U. S. Navy, complete drawings of the hydraulic apparatus of U. S. war ships. C. B. Alexander, '97, who is " tank inspector " of the cyanide mills at DeLamar, Idaho, recently sent the Mining Department of the College a sample of gold ore. A number - of Senior Electricals are reading Arnold's work on armature winding and construction in the original German text under the direction of Mr. F. F. Thompson. This study is taken up voluntarily and not on scheduled work. Several valuable additions to the Pugh Memorial Museum have been received lately. Dr. Geo. C. Caldwell, of Cornell Univer sity, at one time a professor here, has presented some of these, including note books, copies of publications, and specimens of chemical substances on . which Dr. Pugh, the first President of the College, conducted original investigation. Prof. C. Alfred Smith, also a former member of the State College Faculty, now of Chi cago, has also contributed several articles; and Mrs. Pugh has added a valuable work of several volumes on Natural 'History; which was a valued possession of Dr. Pugh.
