THE PRICE, LANCE goes to press under a slightly different
management, owing to the failure of C. T. Wade, an Asso-
ciate Editor, to return to college; and the acceptance of a
position in Pittsburg by C. E. Denney, the Business Manager.
We are very sorry to lose these men; but trust that the new men
appointed to fill the vacancies will do credit to themselves, to
their class, and to Tim LANCIC. A financial statement will be
published by the retiring Business Manager in our next issue.
This issue of "The Free Lance" has been sent to you even
though you may not previously have been a subscriber. It is
your duty to become a subscriber, since this magazine is the
only one published by the student body, all classes having equal
voice in its, management. The subscription price—P.oo per year
—is within the reach of all. Unless a written refusal is mailed to
us or dropped into the box in "The Free Lance" office before
October 251 h, you will be considered a regular subscriber.
"The Free Lance" offers a prize of Five Dollars for the best
original story of over 2000 words submitted by a student, other than
a member of the Staff, to the Editor before November 25th.
The three Senior Editors will judge the relative merits of the
stories submitted, the right being reserved to reject any or all of
them,
"The Free Lance" offers a prize. of Five Dollars for the best
scientc article written upon any popular subject of the day, which
shall be submitted by a student to the Editor before November asth.
The three Senior Editors will appoint a committee of three Pro
fessors, who will judge the relative' merits of the articles submitted,
the right however being reserved by the Editors to reject any or all
