    ACCORDING to the two years' agreement between these two
colleges, their first Track and rield meet was held on
Beaver Field at State, May 19, 1899. The day was any
thing but pleasant, being cold and cloudy with a bad wind blow
ing. It was not a day for the breaking of records, but notwith
standing all this the meet was interesting and had the support of
the student body. State's team showed up strong, winning seven
firsts and nine seconds, while Bucknell won only five firsts and
three seconds.
State lived up to the expectations of her supporters, while
Bucknell expected to carry off more of the honors than she actu
ally did. Pearse of Bucknell won fifteen of her thirty-four points.
Cure in the shot put, Martin in the pole vault, Miles in the one
half and two mile runs, and Mott in the quarter did excellent
work. Each first, counting five points, and each second, three,
the list of events and winners is:—
