The Judges consisting of A. A. Patterson 'B9; Senator J. S.
Weller 'B9; and Geo. Demming '9o, awarded the first prize of $25
to Lewis E. Young, and the second prize of Po to Albert W.
Oakwood.
Immediately after chapel on Tuesday, June 13, there was held a
mass meeting of Trustees, Faculty, Alumni, and Students, the
first of its kind ever held at " State." The meeting was presided
over by the Pres. of the Alumni Association, G. R. Meek, '9o.
The object of the meeting was to enthuse the students with the
missionary side of college life, to send them out to bring back new
students, and to awaken college loyalty. The speakers were in
their order: J. S. Weller 'B9, Dr. L. M. Colfelt, A. A. Patterson
'B9, H. W. Mitchell '9o, D. E. Carpenter '99, and Gen. James
A. Beaver "'98." Every speaker expressed himself with earnest
ness and sincerity, and many witty remarks and hard hits were
made, and we might add that the ldst speaker " made several
home runs." Such a meeting cannot fail to have its good results.
After the mass meeting Tuesday morning, the annual meeting
of the Alumni Association was held. The meeting was called to
order by Pres. Meek '9O; the roll called, nearly sixty responding
to their names; the minutes of the last meeting read, corrected
and adopted; and the following officers elected for the coming
year: Pres, A. A. Patterson, 'B9; Sec'y, Geo. C. Butz 'B3; His
torian, W. A. Buckhout, '6B; Committee of Finances and Busi
