AMEMBER of the faculty has placed in the hands of the FREE LANCE the sum of five dollars to be awarded to that student who before February 25th will submit to the FRES LANcg the best article on a popular scientific subject. President McKinley will accept Dr. Atherton's invitation to be present at the College during commencement week if he will be able to get away from Washington at that time. He assured Dr. Atherton that he would not make any engagement to go else where. Dr. Lawrence M. Colfelt has accepted the invitation tendered him by Dr. Atherton in behalf of the Senior class to preach the Baccalaureate Sermon next commencement. The basket ball team will, play at Bloomsburg on March rst, at Williamsport on the second, and at Lewisburg on the third. Mr. Sayford, a Boston gentleman interested in the Christian work in Colleges, was the guest of the Y. M. C. A. of the College during the first week of this month. Mr. Sayford is a very enter taining speaker and an ardent worker, and during his brief stay he addressed four very well attended meetings. Dr. Lawrence M. Colfelt, who needs no introduction other than the mere mention of his name, will deliver a lecture on " Savon arola " before the meeting of the Woman's Club of the College, within the next few weeks. A smoker was held at .the chapter house of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on Friday evening, February. 3rd. • • • Mr. Herbert A. Sprague, an impersonator of unusual merit, made an excellent impression upon a large and critical audience in the College Chapel on Friday, Jan. 27, by his rendition of " Rip Van Winkle."
