different conditions—conditions which the association itself can
make by introducing a new system of nomination and election.
The system which commends itself—at least to an undergradu
ate—is one which many large societies and Alumni Associations
have found practical, advantageous and essential. Briefly it is as
follows: A nominating committee of three or five members have
as their duty the nomination of two or three names for the trus
teeship declared vacant each year. Ballots containing the names
of the nominees are sent to each member of the association who
may vote for any one nominated or for any other person that he
may desire. These ballots are to be returned in time for the bal
loting at the next regular Alumni meeting and are to be counted
with the votes cast in that meeting. Any alumnus present
who may have previously voted by mail is permitted to change
his ballot, if he so desires, otherwise the vote by mail stands as
his vote. All ballots received after the balloting is closed are
null. After the election in meeting of the first nominating com
mittee that committee and all other officers shall be elected in the
manner as has been suggested above for the election of a trustee.
This method has many advantages as all are consulted and all
thought of, present or absent, and while all the graduates would
not return their ballot slips, many would and the trustee or other
officer so elected would be just so much the more a representative of
the alumni. And we are sure that the instituting of these sug
gestions will certainly tend " to renew the associations of college
days, to promote fraternal feeling and facilitate intercourse "
among the graduates of State.
ENCOURAGED both by the pleasure afforded to the students
and faculty and by the success from a financial standpoint
resulting from the concert which THE FREE LANCE pro
vided in the College Chapel last fall, we have decided to again
try such a venture. By rare good fortune we managed to secure
the Wilczek Grand Concert Co. for Saturday, Nov, 26th. The
company will at that time be travelling east en route to Europe
