The list of students, revised on October 12 th’, shows that there
are 268 students enrolled. They are from 54 counties of Pennsyl
vannia, Centre and Allegheny counties ■ heading, the list with 49
and 27 respectively, and from, nine other states and territories:—
District of Columbia, Illinois, lowa, Maryland, Montana, New
Hampshire (2), New York (2), New Jersey, and Oklahoma.
There are 70 taking the Electrical Engineering Course, 46
Mechanical Engineering, 24 Chemistry, 23 Civil Engineering, 19
Mining Engineering, 15 Agriculture, 16 Biology; n General
Scientific, 10 Latin Scientific, 4 Mathematics, 2 Classical, 1
Philosophy,. 2 Special, and 25 Sub-Freshmen. Senor Romero of
Caracas, Venezuela, not included in the above list, is taking
special work in Agriculture. He was sent here by the Vene
zuelan Government in order to make a special study of our
Experiment Station systems.
The Free Lance has organized a Press Association consisting of
the members of the Staff in order to furnish reliable news per
taining to the College to the newspapers of the state as well as to
give its editors practice in newspaper work. In return for news
sent in by us, a number of papers printed in the larger cities of
the state have put us on their exchange list. Such papers as we
receive, amoug which are the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Pittsburg
Tithes and the Pittsburg Leader are placed in the College Library
each day. ’
An excellent concert was given in the College Chapel on Satur
day, October Ist, by the well known Earnest Gamble and Miss
Risher, under the auspices of the Y. M. C. A.
There are twelve students taking the elective coursein Spanish
which is taught by Prof. I. L. Foster. The majority of these are
engineering students.
McCallum, ’99, was recently elected to fill the vacancy on The
Free Lance Staff occasioned by the absence of Mallory, ’99.
